You don’t have to support [SIC] with a paid subscription. But you CAN pay, if you want to. Go right ahead. I’m into it. Monthly or yearly, or founding support.
Paid subscribers now get an additional [SIC] Sundays newsletter. And founding supporters get invited to a series of dinners at my house in NYC.
Feel free to share, too
Hi all,
Strictly speaking I’m on vacation this week so I feel a *little* less bad than I otherwise might for the delay in sending this week’s edition; the truth is that the internet at our otherwise no-cell-signal spot here in Spain died on Wednesday and took a chunk out of my motivation. Not to mention the general tenor of the news this week…
Sorry about that. Still, didn’t want to leave you with nothing, so here’s another conciser-than-normal-edition. Thanks to Piers, Pruess, Shlaq and Celeste for keeping the contributions coming. And if you’re looking for something more this weekend, here’s frequently cited source Why Is This Interesting’s Weekend Longreads Edition.
Back to regular programming next Thursday. Meantime, enjoy.
Ben

Book of the Week
I’d been planning to read Chris Blackwell’s autobiography after a WSJ review I caught, but seeing it on Tyler Cowen’s reading list on Marginal Revolution recently prompted me to bring it on vacation; Tyler noted it was a fascinating look at Blackwell’s approach to curating talent and building teams (or something like that). Which it is, if you’re willing to think of bands as ‘teams’ in a sort of a workplace sense. I’m not sure I’m on that page exactly, but the book is a great holiday read - fast, descriptive, unindulgent and comes with a readymade soundtrack of songs to search on your favorite streaming service. Recommended.
PS: I liked last week’s book, Sloane Crosley’s “Cult Classic” too. It’s a light one that poses metaphysics as a kind of dating app. Dream it, be it.
